日本の科学技術政策における「選択と集中」は英語で何というのでしょうか？直訳すると、”selection and concentration”が思い浮かびますが、英語でこの言葉を聞いてもあまりピンときません。もともとの日本語の意味は、日本政府が重点的に助成すべき事業の領域を選択し、そこに大きな金額を投資するという内容です。evaluationも浮かびましたが、どれだけちゃんと評価しているのかも怪しいので、やはりselectionの方が意味が広くて合っているかなと思います。重点的な投資は、focusも浮かびますが、どうなんでしょう。内容的にはprioritizationもハマりそうですが、優先付けして傾斜配分するわけではなくて、選ばれたものだけに配分するので、ちょっと意味がズレるかと思いました。
実際のところどう訳されているのか、調べてみました。文科省のサイトに科学技術白書の英語版がありましたが、そこではselection and concentrationという言葉が使われていました。

次に内閣府の文書。やはり同様にselection and concentrationという言葉が使われています。内容の説明としてはprioritized areasという表現です。
