「ねらわれた学園」などの作品で知られるＳＦ作家の眉村卓さんが誤嚥性肺炎で亡くなられたというニュースがありました。

「ねらわれた学園」などのＳＦ小説で知られる作家の眉村卓さんが誤えん性肺炎のため、３日朝、亡くなりました。85歳でした。（2019年11月3日 14時45分　NHK)

誤嚥（ごえん）というのは食べ物をうっかり気道にいれてしまうことで、誤嚥性肺炎というのは、食べ物が肺の方にはいった結果、一緒にはいった細菌などが原因となって生じる肺炎のことだそうです。英語で誤嚥性肺炎は、Aspiration pneumoniaと言うようです。

上記の説明によれば、単なる誤嚥というよりも、脳卒中、アルツハイマー病、パーキンソン病などが原因で誤嚥が起きるとのこと。
