the Americasといえば、南北アメリカの総称です。当然、中米も含まれるでしょう。

ちなみにpeopleというのは動詞の場合の意味は、To live, stay or work in a particular place（引用元：macmillandictionary.com）（ある地域に人が住む）という意味です。

トイレットペーパーでお尻を拭く必要がなかった完璧な排便のことを英語で何という？

大便のことは英語で何？あるいは、トイレで大のほうの用を足すことを英語では何というでしょうか？堅いものから柔らかいものまで、いろいろな表現があります。

日本語でもそうですが、糞便、糞、便、うんち、うんこ、くそ、など医者が使う用語から、上品な大人なら使わない言葉までいろいろあるのは英語も同様です。

さて、日頃、用を足しているとたまに、排便後にトイレットペーパーでお尻を拭いても、拭く必要がなかった？と思うくらい、きれいすっきり便が出せたという経験が誰にでもあると思います。そんな快便のことを英語で何というでしょうか？no-wiperというようです。「拭くもの要らず」ですね。

フランス語にtenacity と同起源の単語があります。大学でフランス語を第二外国語で学んだ人にとってはおなじみの単語ですね。

nerd, geek, otaku, 使い方に注意

一つのことに集中している人のことに対していろいろな呼称があります。

nerd

悪い言葉をあえてつかって人をちゃかすということがありますが、言葉が本来持っているネガティブなイメージを理解せずに不用意に使うと、人間関係を破壊しかねません。nerdという言葉は、人に使わないほうが無難なようです。

ネガティブな印象が強い。「nerd」自身も「nerd」と呼ばれるのが嫌な人が多い。「nerd」はもはや悪口に近い。(「オタク」を意味する「nerd」と「geek」の違いと使い分け 2017/11/07 英語部)

アメリカ人は二者を明確に使い分けています。ギークは社交性があるけれど、ナードは付き合いづらい。得意分野があって、それを生かした仕事に就いたりしている場合、ギークと呼ばれるのは悪くない。でも、ナードとだけは呼ばれたくない。つまり、明らかにnerdには、geekにないネガティブなニュアンスがあるんですよ。パソコン関係に強い人を、computer geekと呼ぶのはいいけれど、computer nerdと呼ぶと嫌がられます。（GeekとNerdの違い－Nerdのほうがネガティブなイメージ　2016.10.23　英語発音クリニック）

ギークと呼ばれて気持ちがいいと思っている人は41％なのに対して、ナードと呼ばれて気持ちが良いと思っている人は24％。また、ナードよりはギークという言葉の方が好きだという人が87％なので、比較するとナードの方は悪いイメージが強いようです。ちなみに、アメリカ人全体で自分がギークだと思っているのはわずかに17％。ブロガーだと37％、技術エンジニアだと50％、ゲームデザイナーだと65％もの人がギークだと自認しています。

「知る」を英語で何と言う？knowだと「知っている」の意味

知るを英語で何というでしょうか？knowという英単語は、知っている状態を表します。日本語で「知った」という表現は、英語で、英語でなんと言えばよいのでしょうか？

つい先日、トランプ大統領はコーミーＦＢＩ長官を突然クビにしました。コーミーＦＢＩ長官は自分がくびになったことを、テレビのニュースで知ったそうです。

knowは「知っている」という意味ですが、get to knowとすると今後は、（人と）「知り合いになる」という意味です。

intriguing

イントリ～ギュ～と言いかけて口ごもり、いつもＷＨＡＴ？と聞き返されるのがこの単語、intriguing。

使い慣れない単語を使うもんじゃないと思いつつ、それじゃいつまで経っても使えるようにならない！というジレンマに陥っています。

動詞は、intrigue
意味は、
to interest someone a lot, especially by being strange, unusual or mysterious (Cambridge Dictionary)

intrigue=interest＝興味をそそる
と覚えると意味を覚えやすいです。

TheFreeDictionaryによるとアクセントは、in-または-tri-で、両方あり得るみたいです。

それが自分の中でいつまでも混乱している原因なのかもしれません。

ということになります。

最初この単語を見たとき、electricの間違いじゃないよなぁ？と思いました。そしたらやっぱり似ている、ということなんでしょう、新聞記事の見出しでeclectic and electricと並べて使われている例がありました。ありがちな、言葉遊び的な見出しの付け方です。
