TOEIC（L&R)の結果が返ってきたら、スコア955→920とダウンでショック

そういえばTOEICを受けてから1カ月くらいたったから結果が出てるかもと思い、TOEICのアカウントにログインしてみたら、スコアが出てました。920という数字を見てがっかり。その前に受けたときは955だったので、だいぶ落ちてしまいました。ここまで悪いとは思っていませんでした。TOEICは問題量が多いので、リーディングパートはいつも時間切れになります。今回は時間が足りなくなることが予めわかっていたのでかなり頑張って飛ばしたつもりでしたが、それでもやはり時間が足りず、最後の大問はまるまる残ってしまい、試験時間残り1秒くらいというところで諦めて残り4つは全部「D」みたいなマークシートの付け方をしてしまいました。ですから、4問分は間違っても仕方がないと思っていたのですが、このスコアからすると自分で解けたつもりの問題もかなり間違っていたようです。

自分は英語があまりできない学力の人が英語の問題を速く解く練習をすることには懐疑的なのですが、自分のTOEICの惨状を見ると、高性能のPCになったつもりでテキパキと情報処理をする能力も大事なのかなと最近思い始めました。あまりそういうTOEIC対策はしたくないのですが、今の自分だと何回受けても時間切れ問題が解決しそうにありません。CPUのクロック数をあげる必要があります。

ネット上でスコアを見て何日も意気消沈していたら、郵送でもスコアが送られてきました。リスニングは前回同様495点でスコアとしては満点です。しかしセクションごとの講評をみると100％でないのが５このセクション中４つあったので、少なくとも4問は間違えたということになります。リスニングはなぜか結構ぽろぽろ間違えてもスコア的には満点をくれるようです。

悲惨なのはリーディングの方でした。５項目あるうちましなのは、「語彙が理解できる」と「文法が理解できる」でした。特に悪いのが、「文章の中の具体的な情報を見つけて理解できる」と、「ひとつの文書の中でまたは複数の文書間でちりばめられた情報を関連付けることができる」です。英語というよりも、情報を抽出する能力が足りないね君は、と言われているわけです。「文書の中の情報をもとに推測できる」は、上記の２つの中間程度のスコアでした。自分の英語力を分析すると、最も弱いのがいわゆるスキミング、素早く情報を抜き取ることでしょうか。確かに、素早くということに自分は嫌悪感があってノンビリと長文を読む癖が長年ついてしまっているのかもしれません。しかもその読解力が年を取ったせいで遅くなっているのでしょう。

自分がどこを間違えたのかを知れば、もうすこしスッキリした気分になれるのですが、TOEICは問題用紙は回収されてしまいますし、自分の解答も正答も教えてもらえないため、せっかくTOEICを受験してあちこち間違えてもその理解が足らない部分がどこなのかという情報のフィードバックをもらえません。これは非常に残念なところです。大学入学試験の模擬試験であれば、自分の解答が採点されて戻ってきて、自分がどういう間違いをしたのかを後からしっかりと見直すことができます。TOEICはそれができないのです。自分の間違え方を理解して正す作業をしないと学力は伸びないので、TOEICをやたら何回も受験することはスコアアップになりません。となると、TOEICの模擬試験がもし採点結果までちゃんともらえるのなら意味があるのかなと思います。自分はTOEICの模擬試験とか練習問題をやったことがほとんどないので、わかりませんが。

ちゃんとTOEIC対策用の問題集をやれば満点のスコアも不可能ではないだろうという感触はありますが、それを目指そうという気力やモチベーションがありません。普段英語に接するときに、もっと完璧に聞き取ること、もっと素早く情報を抜き取って要点を押さえることを意識していこうかなと思います。

もともとTOEIC受験を思い立ったきっかけは、転職の際に英語力の客観的な指標をもっておくと有利かなというものでした。その必要性が今のところあまりないので、モチベーションがないのです。自分はテストのために勉強することが大嫌いなので。
