Lost Generationは、非常に巧妙に書かれた散文詩で、上から下に読み勧めても、逆に、下の行から上の行に読み勧めても意味をなします。ただし、見事に反対の意味になります。ネガティブな暗いないようだったのが、読む行の順番を後ろから前の方向にすると、希望が湧いてくる内容になっているのです。

Is a lie, and というのは嘘だ。
“Money will make me happy” 「お金が自分を幸せにする。」
So in thirty years, I will tell my children だから30年後に、自分は子供達に言うだろう
They are not the most important thing in my life. お前達は、自分の人生にとってもっとも大切なものではない。
My employer will know that 私の雇い主は知るだろう
I have my priorities straight because 自分は優先順位をしっかりとつけている

I tell you this: これを言っておく。
Once upon a time かつて
Families stayed together 家族は共に過ごした。
But this will not be true in my era. しかしそれは自分の時代には正しくない。

Experts tell me 専門家は私に言う
Thirty years from now, I will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of my divorce. 30年後に、私は自分の離婚の30周年のお祝いをしているだろう。
I do not concede that 自分は認めない
I will live in a country of my own making. 自分が自分で作り出した国に住むだろうことなど。
In the future, 将来、
Environmental destruction will be the norm. 環境破壊が通常になｔっているだろう。
No longer can it be said that もはやこうは言えない。
My peers and I care about this Earth. 自分の仲間や自分は地球のことを大切にするとは。
It will be evident that それは明らかであろう
My generation is apathetic and lethargic. 自分の世代は無感動で無気力だ
It is foolish to presume that 馬鹿げた思い込みだと思う
There is hope. 希望があるなんて。
And all of this will come true unless we choose reverse it. これら全てのことが現実に起こるだろう。反転させると決めない限り。
